Make a dreamy lane of wooden houses with your favorite fabric.

Materials

  • wooden shaped houses (1 - 2 inches thick) with roof pieces and small wooden pieces as doors (this pieces and very thin)

  • fabric

  • wood glue

  • white acrylic paint

  • paint brushes

  • cutting mat and rotary cutter ( or scissors)

  • ruler

  • pencil/pen

  • Modge podge

As my daydream collection was about to be released, I wanted to come up with a way to use the fabric in a different way. I know some of you may want to use fabric but do not know how to sew or own a sewing machine ( although everything sewing is so much fun and I recommend you give it a try this will be an amazing way to make something using your favorite fabrics) so here is a wonderful project that you can make without having to sew but using that fabric you have been dying to make something with.

My daughter wanted me to make something for her room and I can up with these houses as a way to decorate and also to be used as a little playing village for her dolls.

Let’s get to it…..

Step 1

  • Make sure to have your wooden pieces cut to the shape you want your houses to have. I used three typical housed shape pieces all three in different sizes, a small medium and large house. You can have as many as you’d like, let your imagination go wild.

  • Gather all your materials and lay them out so you can have everything on hand.

Step 2

  • Paint the main wooden house pieces white. I did only the front, where the fabric will go because I wanted to conserve that wood toy feeling to it. How ever maybe you want to put fabric all around or paint the other sides.

  • Let the paint dry

Step 3

  • Trace the shape of your wooden house on to the fabric. Do this by placing the wood piece on the back of the fabric and mark with pencil of pen.

Step 4

  • Cut along the line that you traced. ( Tip: use a ruler and rotary cutter to get a very exact line) This is a very important part. It will make your house have crisp straight edges and clean edges when you paste the fabric.

Step 5

  • It’s time to get that fabric on the white side of the wooden house.

  • Go ahead and brush some Modge Podge on top of the white side of the house and carefully put the cut fabric piece on top. As you do this brush more Modge Podge on top of the fabric. Make sure its has an even layer of Modge Podge on top, it will start to seep in thru the fabric so make sure it looks like an even layer.

  • Let it dry and repeat at least another 2 -3 times depending who glossy and thick you want the top layer to be.

Step 6

  • Last step use your wood glue to past the roof pieces, the doors, and you can even add little windows if you’d like.
